Alternative routes to London Luton Airport by car

Major roadworks are scheduled on the M1 motorway until Autumn 2008 and will affect access to London Luton Airport. Passengers are advised to expect delays for the duration of these works and are strongly advised to leave additional travel time to get to London Luton Airport.

In good traffic conditions, it is quickest to use M25 and M1 routes into Luton Airport.  During this period of roadworks, delays can be experienced at all times of day and will be particularly long at other times.  We suggest that you allow extra time to get to the airport and that you seek traffic reports where possible.  However, should you wish to avoid the worst parts of the roadworks, there are some suggested routes below.

From London:

  • Exit M1 at junction 6

  • Follow signs for A1081 towards St. Albans and Harpenden
  • At Harpenden, continue on the A1081

  • Turn right onto the B4540 to Whipsnade Pass Whipsnade Zoo on right
  • Continue on B4540 towards Luton
  • After Kesworth, turn right onto A5 towards St. Albans and Luton
  • Take first left at traffic lights, towards Luton on the B4540
  • Follow signs to Luton Airport
