Originally settled by Persian merchants from the Bastak region of Iran, this part of Dubai is well worth its weight in sand if a break from modern is what you crave. Take a look back at a time when air-conditioning was conducted by wind towers and when the souk was the focal point.

Many of the ornate buildings are now home to museums, galleries, restaurants and markets and there’s no shortage of old fortifications to admire. So, if you need a break from the modern, Bastakiya will come as a great relief.

Just a short stroll from the beaches of Jumeirah, Wild Wadi Waterpark offers an afternoon of thrills, and like much of Dubai, large-scale has been preferred. As well as waterfalls and soaring cliffs there are no less than 14 different rides to saturate. The watery highlights include: A 33 metre plunge at 80kph, 1.5 metre high waves at Breakers Bay and a 170 metre plunge down Rushdown Ravine. What’s more, you can even pop in for surf lessons.

Although it may sound like one of those ‘perfect for the kids’ experiences, Wild Wadi Water Park will certainly offer adrenalin junkies more than just a theme park.

Your private tour departs in the afternoon, travelling across the deserts of Dubai in a 4x4 vehicle. You will have several photo-stops during an exciting dune drive to the first destination, the camel farm.

The drive continues across the desert where you will have the opportunity to witness a beautiful desert sunset, one of the highlights of a trip to the Arabian deserts. Upon arrival at your campsite, you have the opportunity to ride on a camel, experience the thrill of sandboarding and try out a henna design on your hands or feet.

After all that activity you will have worked up an appetite, so enjoy a delicious BBQ dinner and a shisha (the contents of the famous Arabic water pipe). Enjoy the belly dancer performing her show around the campfire by starlight (except during Ramadan), before returning to your hotel.
